Clearing the Path: Governance and Growth for a Family-Led Business 

THE CHALLENGE

The board chairman and primary founder remained highly involved in operations, curtailing the decision-making authority of the CEO (his son) and his leadership team. This dynamic created friction, especially around investments and strategic projects, where the chairman’s control often slowed progress and stifled innovation.

What we did

Acumen worked closely with the family to align leadership on governance roles and decision processes. We: 


  • Designed a clear decision rights framework to specify who decides, recommends, consults, and is informed for major business decisions 
  • Developed and implemented a data-driven portfolio analysis tool to objectively evaluate investment and growth opportunities 
  • Codified the chairman’s intuitive investment criteria into a transparent, repeatable framework 
Impact

Executive roles were clarified, making portfolio decisions easier and more transparent. The chairman felt confident that his knowledge was transferred to the next generation, making him more willing to delegate. The family business achieved greater alignment and readiness for sustainable growth.
